A clear guide
through the patent process,
before you file.

JP Patents helps inventors and early-stage founders understand what protecting an idea actually involves — prior art, disclosures, drawings, and the steps that come after — so you walk into filing informed, not guessing.

Where I am?

I'm not yet a registered patent practitioner and I'm not a lawyer. I've worked hands-on with Office Actions and prior art searches, and I'm preparing to sit for the USPTO registration exam. Until I'm registered, everything here is educational: I can help you understand the process, organize your invention, and get ready to work with a licensed attorney or registered agent — I can't draft, file, or represent you before the USPTO, and nothing on this site is legal advice.

What I can help with

Educational sessions and prep work, scoped to what doesn't require registration.

Invention breakdown

A working session to pull your invention apart into the pieces a patent application actually needs: what's novel, what's obvious, what's still fuzzy.

Prior art literacy

I'll walk you through how to search and read prior art yourself — patents, publications, product listings — so you understand the landscape before anyone drafts a claim.

Process orientation

Provisional vs. non-provisional, what an Office Action actually is, what to expect on a timeline.

Filing readiness

Organizing drawings, disclosures, and notes into a package your future attorney or registered agent can pick up and run with, instead of starting cold.

How a session runs

  1. 1

    Intro call

Free 20 minutes to hear about your invention and figure out if this is a fit.

  2. 2

    Working session

We go through the invention together — what's protectable, what prior art looks like, what's missing.

  3. 3

    Written summary

You get notes and a map of next steps, organized enough to hand to a practitioner.

  4. 4

    Handoff

When you're ready to file, I can help you find and brief a registered attorney or agent — filing itself stays with them.

About

I'm Jiya — background in computer science and electrical engineering, with hands-on experience on Office Actions and prior art work before starting JP Patents. I'm studying for the USPTO registration exam now, and built this practice to make the early, confusing part of patenting an idea a little less opaque for the people going through it for the first time.

A few questions

Are you a patent attorney or agent?

Not yet. I'm preparing for the USPTO registration exam and I'm not a lawyer. Everything I offer right now is educational.

Can you file my patent application?

No — filing and representation before the USPTO require registration I don't yet have. I can help you prepare so that step goes faster once you engage a registered attorney or agent.

Is what you tell me legal advice?

No. Nothing here is legal advice or a substitute for counsel from a licensed attorney or registered patent agent.

What happens once you're registered?

The scope of what I can offer will expand. If you'd like to know when that happens, mention it on the intro call.
